Chandigarh
The Centre has done away with the Rs 11,000 cap on cash pilgrims can carry while visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib through the Kartarpur corridor.
The electronic travel authorisation issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs says pilgrims travelling to Pakistan can carry cash as per the RBI guidelines i.e. Rs 25,000 in Indian currency, apart from $500.
However, other restrictions such as carrying not more than 7-kg luggage, returning the same day and not venturing beyond the shrine stay. The Centre is yet to take a call on waiving the passport requirement. Cooperation and Jails Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa said increasing the cash limit would not benefit the poor. The Centre should waive the passport norm and allow obstacle-free access to the shrine, he said.
