New Delhi, August 18
Indian poor have so far sought two crore hospitalisations under the flagship Ayushman Bharat Mission that guarantees free and cashless services up to Rs 5 lakh a year for secondary and tertiary care to over 10.74 crore vulnerable families which amounts to over 53 crore beneficiaries.
Top six specialities and procedures the beneficiaries sought were general medicine, general surgery, infectious diseases, obstetrics and gynaecology, medical oncology and orthopaedics.
The National Health Authority, nodal agency for Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana, on Wednesday reported that since the programme launch on September 23, 2018, nearly 1.99 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 24,683 crores had been authorized across the country.
As of July 10, 2021, approximately 16.20 crores eligible beneficiaries have been verified under the scheme and provided with their Ayushman cards, top officials said.
The Mission, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged for saturation benefits in his Independence Day speech, offers 918 health benefit packages with fixed rates covering 1,669 procedures along with Covid treatment and diagnostic tests.
The scheme is run through 23,000 public and private hospitals empanelled with AB PM-JAY across the country.
The National Health Authority, nodal agency for the Mission, said 16 crore individual beneficiaries had been verified out of 53 crore so far and provided with Ayushman cards.
On average, approximately 28 beneficiaries are verified per minute and 20 pre-authorisations take place in a minute under the scheme.
The scheme also meets the gender parity goals with 47.5 per cent of the beneficiaries being women. Among women, the most sought procedures were General medicine, obstetrics & gynaecology, general surgery, medical oncology and ophthalmology.
To date, 33 States and UTs have implemented the scheme and expanded the beneficiary database of AB PM-JAY to 13.44 crore.
As of today, 2.4 lakh hospital admissions worth Rs 516.3 crore have been authorised under the scheme under the “portability” feature.
